Frequently Asked Questions

Why are there workers in my area?

At NT Power, we’re dedicated to providing safe and dependable energy to the communities we serve. To keep our system running smoothly, we continuously upgrade and modernize our equipment and infrastructure.  Our focus is always on our customers. Whether it’s connecting new homes and businesses, improving existing services, expanding capacity to support growth, or replacing outdated infrastructure, every investment we make is designed to ensure reliable electricity for today and the future.  When you see our crews in your area, they’re hard at work on these essential projects. This might include work in backyards, along streets, or in utility corridors, as well as trimming vegetation near power lines or equipment. These efforts are crucial to maintaining the system, meeting increasing energy needs, and reducing the risk of major outages down the line.

Why are there sometimes numerous planned outages and are they really necessary?

While we work on capital projects, planned outages help us to ensure the safety of the public, community, and our team while completing a large scope of work in a shorter period of time. We understand that planned outages can often be disruptive, but they allow us to complete work that will prevent more serious, dangerous, and widespread outages in the future.

What should I expect during infrastructure upgrades?

Due to the nature of the work, there will be construction-related noise and dust from the equipment and trucks.  We will, however, make every effort to minimize this and keep public safety as our top priority.   We will ensure access to the roadway will be maintained whenever possible and once the work is complete, all required restoration will be finished in a timely manner.

How long do these projects typically last?

Each project timeline will vary based on the specific needs and scope of the work. Factors such as location, weather conditions, and coordination with other infrastructure and entities can impact the duration. While some projects may be completed in a few weeks, others may take several months. NT Power provides regular updates to keep you informed of our progress and any changes to timelines.

How accurate is your project timeline?

We strive to keep our projects timelines as accurate and timely as we possibly can. Extreme and poor weather conditions, location, and coordination with other infrastructure can impact and possibly create delays in project timelines. We will always continue to provide regular and consistent updates regarding timeline changes.

Does NT Power perform all construction and/or infrastructure upgrades?

NT Power oversees the planning and management of all construction and infrastructure upgrades within our service areas. When required, we will contract qualified companies to complete or assist with projects. This approach ensures that all upgrades are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

What is sodded ground and why do we need to restore it?

Sodded ground refers to an area where a layer of pre-grown grass has been placed. Sod is essentially turf, where a section will contain grass, a thin layer of soil, and roots that hold it all together. This is an effective and immediate way of establishing a lawn or greenery in an area without having to wait for new grass to grow after seeding.   Sodded ground will need to be restored for several different reasons including the degradation of the ground, bare spots, weed overgrowth, and severe damage to the ground. Restoring the sodded ground allows us to maintain the health, appearance, and functionality of the area. We will also ensure to select a time when conditions are most favourable for seeding to begin restoring an area.

How do I properly care for newly seeded grass?

We want to ensure you are fully equipped with the information you need to properly care for your new sodded ground. Within the first few weeks, daily watering may be necessary in dry areas or if there is no rain. You will want to be sure that you do not over-saturate or flood the area or use high-pressure watering tools, as this can cause the seed to rot or be washed away. After approximately three weeks of growth watering can usually be adjusted to every other day, gradually extending to every three days as the grass matures.

Where can I find updates and/or ask any questions?
